Source and rights position
5channel Data Services is operated by the operator of 5channel. Data is licensed as a first-party offering from the entity that operates the source system — not resold, aggregated from third parties, or assembled by crawling.
This matters for diligence: there is one counterparty, one chain of custody, and one contract governing the data you receive.
Nature of the content
The corpus consists of posts submitted for public display on a public discussion board. It is user-generated content. Posts are made under pseudonymous or anonymous conditions and were publicly accessible at the time of posting.
Licensees remain responsible for their own compliance assessment, including under the Copyright Act and the Act on the Protection of Personal Information. We provide documentation, provenance records, and configurable processing to support that assessment; we do not substitute for it.
This page describes our general licensing posture for diligence. It is not a warranty, an offer, or legal advice. Commercial rights are granted only under a written licence negotiated for each engagement. Definitive contract language will be reviewed with Japanese counsel in connection with individual transactions.
Redaction profiles
- raw
- No content modification. Available only where the licence and the licensee's own assessment support it.
- standard
- Pattern-based redaction of contact identifiers: email addresses, telephone numbers, postal addresses, payment card patterns, and government identifier patterns. Redactions are typed and counted per record.
- strict
- standard, plus redaction of personal-name candidates and URL-embedded identifiers, plus suppression of records exceeding a configurable risk score.

Redaction is applied deterministically and is recorded in the delivery manifest. Custom profiles can be defined for a specific engagement. No redaction process is represented as achieving complete removal of personal information.
Licensing model
Licences are negotiated and scoped. There is no self-serve catalogue and no fixed public price list. A written agreement defines what you receive and which uses are permitted. Terms address, at minimum:
- — Permitted use — model training, evaluation, internal analytics, research, and public retrieval or display, each defined separately
- — Term and territory
- — Scope of data — boards, date range, filters, update cadence — confirmed during scoping
- — Raw-data redistribution — generally prohibited; model-weight distribution treated separately
- — Sublicensing and affiliates
- — Deletion and correction handling during the term, where agreed
- — Confidentiality, including whether the relationship may be disclosed
- — Audit and reporting, where applicable
- — Exclusivity, where negotiated
Technical previews and paid evaluations are provided under separate terms. Neither grants production rights. Production use requires a written production licence.

Pricing is based on the agreed dataset, permitted uses, processing requirements and update schedule. Paid evaluations are scoped separately so your team can assess suitability before committing to a production license.
